A Simple K-Beauty Routine for Dark Spots and Uneven Skin Tone

Dark spots, leftover marks from breakouts, and uneven skin tone are some of the most common concerns we hear about. The good news: K-beauty has some of the best brightening formulas around. The key is pairing the right ingredients with a routine you'll actually stick to. Here's a simple, four-step routine using products from our shelves.

The key ingredients to look for

  • Tranexamic acid helps reduce excess melanin, the pigment behind dark spots.
  • Niacinamide brightens overall tone and improves texture.
  • Squalane is a lightweight, plant-derived moisturizer that keeps skin healthy and hydrated while you treat spots.
  • Rice extracts are a traditional Korean ingredient for smoother, more radiant skin.
  • AHA and BHA are exfoliating acids that clear away dull dead skin so brighteners can work better.

Step 1: Exfoliate (1–2 times a week)

Dead skin cells make spots look darker and skin look duller. The Dr. Melaxin Peel Shot White Rice Ampoule combines rice water, AHA and BHA, and niacinamide for exfoliation plus moisture. If pores and oiliness are a bigger concern for you, try the Black Rice version, which adds charcoal powder.

Start slow, once a week, and follow the directions on the package. Over-exfoliating can irritate skin and actually make pigmentation worse.

Step 2: Brightening serum (daily)

After cleansing and toning, apply the Axis-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum. Made with 5% niacinamide and plant-derived squalane, it targets dark spots and uneven tone while keeping skin moisturized, and it layers well with everything else.

Step 3: Targeted dark spot cream (daily)

The Dr. Melaxin TX Tranexamic Acid Cream is the hero of this routine. It combines tranexamic acid, niacinamide, and glutathione to target dark spots and even out skin tone. Dr. Melaxin recommends consistent use for at least 4–8 weeks to see visible results, so be patient!

Step 4: Sunscreen every single morning

This is the step that makes or breaks every brightening routine. UV exposure triggers more pigment, so without sunscreen, dark spots keep coming back. The Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Sunscreen (SPF 50+, PA++++) is lightweight and leaves no white cast, so it's easy to wear every day. Reapply when you're outdoors.

Sample routine

Morning: cleanser → toner → Dark Spot Glow Serum → moisturizer → sunscreen

Evening: cleanser → toner → Dark Spot Glow Serum → TX Cream
1–2 nights a week: use the Peel Shot after cleansing, then follow with your serum and cream.

A few tips for best results

  • Consistency beats intensity. Brightening takes weeks, not days. Stick with it.
  • Introduce one new product at a time, and patch test if your skin is sensitive.
  • Don't pick at breakouts. It's one of the most common causes of lingering dark marks.
  • If you have stubborn or changing spots, check in with a dermatologist.
